About the Historical Society

The Northbrook Historical Society was organized in December 1973 and Incorporated in March 1974 by residents interested in preserving the history of our Village.

The Museum is located in the three-story Northfield Inn at 1776 Walters Avenue, Northbrook, Illinois. The facility is handicapped accessible on the lower two floors. The lower level contains a large meeting room decorated with the Schinleber Photograph Collection and other permanent exhibits. The museum contains rotating exhibits on the main floor.

The top floor is a re-created 1890-1910 Shermerville home. The home has a parlor, sewing room, kitchen, dining room, child’s room, bathroom and bedroom. Each room is authentically decorated and furnished with period furniture, fixtures, clothing, toys and artifacts. A video tour of this Shermerville home is also available.
